about
"Poppy Seeds" is a track that's been around since the early days. We jammed on this song endlessly in rehearsals back in 2004 or so, and it was always a riff I could never shake, but up until 2011 could never seem to finish. Suddenly the song hit me one night, and in literally 10 minutes it went from being a 4 chord riff, to a complete track - melody, lyrics, changes, and all. One of the louder songs on the record, I never thought, 10 years ago, that this would one day be the first official Rotting Apples single. But alas, here it is. In all its ambiguous, distorted glory.
- Billy (writer, instrumentalist)
I first heard mention of this song in January 2012, and I received the music and lyrics for it in February. I sent a "first take" to Billy during February, and by mid-March I'd sent him the final version we were both happy with. Upon first listening to Billy's music for this song, my impression was: "sounds pretty rockin' overall!" as I told him. When it came to recording the vocals, I had lots of fun. Listening back now, I particularly love how the chorus harmonies sound against that epic musical backdrop. Billy definitely has a knack for writing upbeat, cheerful rock songs that make one want to get up & dance (or just jump around and headbang, maybe...), and this is definitely one of my favourites.

lyrics
All alone
In my own decision
Just a stone
Of my own decision
What you want is what you cannot have
And I remember all those things you had said
Still I'm alone
With my own decision
I never felt a thing
Till you had let me in
And if told you I'd never leave
Could you forgive me when
I let go and know you're there
Back and forth
On the meaning beside you
That you know
It's the only thing that scares you
All you wish is what you cannot save
The past remembers what you want and gave
Back and forth
It's the only thing that scares you
I never felt a thing
Till you had let me in
And if told you I'd never leave
Could you forgive me when
I let go and know you're there
What you want is what you cannot have
And I remember all those things you had said
Just a stone
Of my own decision
All alone
With my own decision
In my own decision
